Heather & Jarrod would like to welcome you to Nature Space Resort & Retreat Centre - the Natural Capital of PEI! We have dreamed of building a special destination that connected nature, outdoor exploration, wellness & unique accommodations for over a decade. With two busy jobs and two young children that plan was put aside, but their passion and drive to create a space that encouraged guests to connect with nature, connect with each other and connect with themselves never went away. As with many things a major life event can spur us to action. With a half done business plan sitting on the shelf we were poised to spring to action. When Heather's father passed away it acted as a catalyst for us to re-evaluate our lives. He always had a saying of "things have a way of working out" became a mantra that we would follow. With so many unknowns and the prospect of stepping away from professional jobs they knew that they had the drive and determination to make Nature Space Resort & Retreat Centre. While we have lots of help here on the resort, Heather and Jarrod remain an integral part of the day-to-day operations and you are likely to meet them working around the resort, guiding one of our many tours & experiences or serving you up some delicious local fare! This is a family-run boutique resort and you are likely to meet their children helping around the resort and Finlay and Emma will be sure to introduce you to our chickens or help you find what you are looking for while enjoying the grounds. Heather Gunn McQuillan
Resort Owner
Heather is the co-owner of Nature Space Resort in beautiful St. Peter’s Harbour, PEI. She is a certified RYT 200hr Yoga Alliance Teacher (500h currently in process with certifications in Vinyasa, Yin, Yoga Nidra, and Chair Yoga). Heather has actively practiced yoga since 2009, is trained in Mindfulness Meditation (MBSR graduate), and has practiced meditation since 2013. She is also certified as a meditation and mindfulness instructor and is a graduate from Canada's only graduate-level University program in Mindfulness (Mindfulness Based Teaching and Learning offered from The University of the Fraser Valley). Heather is also a certified MBSR facilitator from the Centre for Mindfulness Studies. Heather is a veterinarian and has worked all across Canada in a variety of positions. Most recently she has been teaching vet students at the Atlantic Veterinary College since 2010. She has developed a passion for working with the next generation of veterinarians and helping support her profession with mental health and wellness. She teaches at the University with a special focus on veterinary wellness, leadership and communication. Heather is deeply committed to life-long learning, and has advanced training and certifications in leadership, communication, mental health and wellness. Heather also holds certifications in Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) and Sea Kayaking through Paddle Canada.
Jarrod Gunn McQuillan
Resort Owner
Jarrod brings a wide variety of life and work experiences to their project at the resort. His educational background includes Commerce and Science degrees and early in his career his work focused on sustainability & localizing food systems and he worked closely with primary food producers, community groups, sustainable food advocates and First Nations communities in Ontario and British Columbia. More recently, prior to opening the resort, he spent more than 10 years as the Oyster Biologist for the Province of Prince Edward Island and still grows his own oysters and shares experiences and his passion for oysters with guests at the resort. He has been on the PEI International Shellfish Festival Board of Directors for over 10 years and has organized multiple Oyster Shucking Competitions and judged the Canadian Oyster Shucking competition multiple times. For the last 3 years he has offered the unique Oyster Lover’s Kayak Experience, which takes guests out onto an active oyster farm in a Sea-to-Table Immersive Experience. He is also a passionate naturalist and outdoor leader. He is one of the most highly certified sea kayak instructors in Atlantic Canada with Paddle Canada and has had the pleasure of leading programs & expeditions as well attending sea kayak gatherings as a guest coach all across Canada, the United States and beyond through his sea kayak instructional business – Cloud 9 Adventures.
